Holland Rocks Presents Jan Kooi Singles

With Wim Reckers

This hour of music is dedicated to Jan Kooi, it is a selection of his favourite songs of all time. Jan was a fierce advocate of garage rock and rock&roll in the Netherlands. ‘Music has to be real’, he always said, ‘it has to come from the heart, and not from some mainstream producer.’ He owned a record label – Kogar Records – where he offered several starting garage bands an opportunity to put themselves on the map. He also owned a record store in his hometown Groningen, a venue for alternative music records. Jan passed away recently, far too young. One of the last things he said was that he regretted not being able to experience all the music that was yet to be made.

Aircheck Of The Week

This week we return to January, 1968 as we visit the Home Of The Good Guys, WMCA/New York to hear Gary Stevens and the Wooleyburger. Gary held down the evening "teen" shift,  7-11 PM. Next to Dan Ingram, he was the funniest talent in New York radio at the time. Listening to Gary Stevens is what inspired me to choose radio for my career path. I've remixed the entire studio-recorded aircheck in stereo.

Kogar's Jungle Juice #21 Lux & Ivy's Favorites Special

With Kogar the Swinging Ape!

"Here is Kogar's Jungle Juice Show #21! Almost THREE HOURS of amazing music from the Lux and Ivy's Favorites series that started nearly 30 years ago! Along the way I'll talk a little bit about the series and how it started while playing (mostly) 45's from the compilations with interview segments from various Lux and Ivy interviews that I've found over the years. All mashed together with horror and exploitation cuts from their favorite movies. Also in there will be a handful of tunes from a possible LAIF volume 18! It's enough to make you a cross eyed gurning sight! Yowwwwwww. Special added bonus the incredibly rare and insane PAPA OO MOW MOW relaxation tape! Something I put together to listen to when I want to get in touch with my inner Purple Knif!
So slap on your wig hat, polish up your Batty Bucks (or cha cha heels, whichever you prefer) and settle in to your favorite leopard print comfy chair and take a trip that will tickle your fissure of rolando!"

Aircheck Of The Week

This is a very condensed (but unscoped) look at a full broadcast day for New York's legendary WNEW-FM in 1971. The lineup included Pete Fornatale, Jonathan Schwartz, Scott Muni, Rosko, and Alison Steele. Originally a scoped sales demo, I've restored all of the music in glorious Metromedia Stereo. If you were listening to FM album rock in the early 70s, this is as good as it gets.
